One of the things I love about Shorewood is that it feels distinctly different from some of the larger surrounding suburbs.
You can run into a local restaurant, stop for coffee, spend an afternoon outside, or attend a community event without necessarily feeling like you're in the middle of a huge suburban area.
At the same time, you're only minutes from the shopping, dining, entertainment, and employment opportunities available throughout Joliet and Plainfield.
It's that combination that makes Shorewood attractive: a smaller community with big-suburb conveniences nearby.

2. Parks, Trails & Outdoor Recreation in Shorewood
Another reason people enjoy living in Shorewood is access to outdoor recreation.
One of the area's best-known destinations is Hammel Woods, part of the Forest Preserve District of Will County. The preserve runs along the DuPage River and gives residents a nearby place to enjoy nature, walking, biking, picnicking, and time outdoors.
Shorewood also has neighborhood parks and community recreation areas, including Towne Center Park, which hosts community activities such as outdoor movie screenings during the summer.
That outdoor component adds quite a bit to the community—especially if your ideal Saturday involves getting outside rather than driving somewhere far away.

You don't necessarily have to leave Shorewood for a good meal, either.
The Village's current business directory shows a surprisingly diverse restaurant scene, including everything from breakfast and pizza to Mexican, sushi, Vietnamese, and local gathering spots.
A few local names you might want to check out include Crispy Waffle II for breakfast, Happy Place Cafe, Mark's On 59, Casa Maya Mexican Restaurant, and Little Saigon. Current restaurant rankings also highlight local spots such as Maciano's Pizza & Pastaria, Cho Sushi, and Smile of Siam.
And if you want something a little different, Shorewood has coffee shops, breweries, dessert spots, and other locally oriented businesses mixed in with familiar national brands. That's one of the little things that can make a community feel like home rather than simply somewhere you live.

Shorewood also makes everyday errands relatively convenient.
Many businesses are concentrated along Route 59/Brook Forest Avenue and Route 52/Jefferson Street, which are two of the village's major commercial corridors. The Village's comprehensive plan specifically identifies these areas as important local and regional commercial centers.
Residents have access to grocery stores, restaurants, home improvement stores, retail, fitness, professional services, and other everyday necessities within Shorewood, with even more options available minutes away in Joliet and Plainfield.

According to Realtor.com's June 2026 market data, the median sold price in Shorewood was approximately $407,000, up 7.39% year over year. The median listing price was approximately $447,450, while the median price per square foot was about $193. Realtor.com reported 111 active listings and a median of 35 days on market for that period.
It's worth noting that market-data providers calculate their statistics differently. Redfin's three-month data ending June 2026 put Shorewood's median sale price at approximately $382,000 and described the market as very competitive.
